As a child, i was only terrified of one thing.
Complete and utter darkness.
Not so much the darkness itself, but what It hid from my young eyes.
What creatures followed me patiently in the black that I would never see. what beings are silently creeping around me waiting for their chance to strike.
I slept in the same room as my brother when we were young, and we had one of those metal sliding closets that you could slide from either side and it would open. At night, its was pitch black inside. Eerily enough, even when there was moonlight, its was still near impossible to even see the brightest of clothing. Of course, to a young one, not knowing what could be lurking about, this was a huge problem!
Yeah of course, I got scared and closed it eventually at night, but that doesn't stop you from thinking "what if they're smart? What if they have hands?!" you know?
One monster in particular I unfortunately allowed myself to create and be afraid of was the Shadow Eater. Didn't really EAT shadows, but darkness just seemed to follow him around, or latch onto him, especially from his pitch black home. As my fear of this guy increased overtime, he evolved.
Around this time, I started playing Silent Hill 2 (damn you Uncle!!) and Pyramid Head was the second thing i became afraid of. lol So of course i eventually became afraid of faceless monsters. Wasnt till my teens that i realized how freaking awesome Pyramid Head was, but moving on.
I cant remember exactly how Shadow Eater looked, but I do remember he was tall and had a freaky looking skeleton for a mask...and i knew that he totally meant to do kids a world of hurt, hence the rusty exacto knife.
Some imagination huh? XD
By the way, this is my Contest Entry for the MAMA Scared Stiff contest.
Wish me luck folks!
